What Is a Guardian Home?

A Guardian Home is a loving family that raises one of our breeding dogs as their own pet. The dog lives full-time with the guardian family, enjoying all the love, walks, couch cuddles, and family adventures that come with being a beloved family member.

Rose Country Labradoodles occasionally holds back a pup or purchases a pup from another breeder with exceptional qualities for our breeding program. Guardian families are carefully selected to ensure the pup lives as a loved family member, receiving proper care and attention.

This arrangement ensures our breeding dogs live the best possible lives — as family pets — while allowing us to maintain a small, responsible breeding program without keeping all dogs in a kennel environment.

How the Guardian Program Works

Here's what you can expect as a Guardian Home family.

1

Application & Selection

Interested families contact us and we discuss your home environment, lifestyle, and experience with dogs. We look for families within a one-hour driving distance of Red Deer who can provide a loving, stable home.

2

Puppy Placement

Once matched, your guardian dog comes home with you as a puppy (or young adult). They live with you full-time as your family pet. Both male and female pups — in miniature, medium, and standard sizes — are placed in guardian homes across a variety of colors.

3

Health Testing & Assessment

As the dog matures, they return to Rose Country periodically for health assessments and testing. We cover all medical costs related to breeding and health testing.

4

Breeding Visits

When it's time to breed, the dog visits Rose Country temporarily:

  • Males: 2–7 days per breeding visit
  • Females: 2–7 days for breeding + 7–8 weeks to whelp and nurture puppies

Females may have up to 4 litters after completing all health testing.

5

Retirement & Full Ownership

Once the guardian contract is fulfilled, the dog is spayed/neutered (at our expense) and becomes yours permanently — no strings attached. You get to keep your beloved family member for the rest of their life!
